Sri Venkat S. Ramanan
Dr. Venkat S. Ramanan is the President of Sri Ramanasramam in Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, and the great grandnephew of Sri Ramana Maharshi, the revered 20th-century Indian sage. He assumed the presidency in 2020, succeeding his father, V.S. Ramanan, who had led the ashram for nearly 26 years.
Dr. Ramanan was born in India to a family deeply connected to the Ramanasramam
tradition. His father, V.S. Ramanan, was a close associate of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi, and his upbringing was steeped in the ashram’s culture, with stories and teachings of Bhagavan shaping his worldview. He later trained as a physician and practiced medicine in the United States for over 25 years.
Dr. Ramanan is known for sharing the wisdom of Sri Ramana Maharshi, emphasizing that inner peace is a natural state of the Self and can be maintained even in the face of life’s challenges. He often speaks about the importance of remaining unperturbed in changing circumstances, drawing on Bhagavan’s own example of living in silence and self-realization.
